English - Unfamiliar Vocabulary
Class Three predicted the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary. They used their dictionary skills to define the meanings. We then applied some of this language to our description of the Amazon, using the techniques within ‘DADWAVERS’ to vary our sentence structures.

In Geography today we identified countries and capital cities within the United Kingdom. The children used a contents page to locate the maps they needed within an atlas.
Maths - Starting a New Topic
Year 1 have started a new maths topic to develop their place value skills. They have practiced counting to 50 and using base ten to partition numbers.
Exploring the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan
Today the class explored the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan. We had the chance to create our very own rakhi as a gift.
Science - Concept of Time
In Science, Class Three devised and calibrated a sundial when learning about the concept of time. The children worked in partners and used the location of true North to observe where shadows were cast behind the gnomon before annotating sunrise, midday and sunset.
Crisp Challenge!
Crisp Challenge! We were given lots of different crisps to try. Once we had eaten them, we had to guess what flavour they were. Some were easier than others. None of us could guess Worcestershire sauce.
Art - Ancient Egyptian Style Artwork
After making our papyrus paper, the children were able to use charcoal and paint to create their very own Ancient Egyptian style artwork.
History - Topic completed
We completed our History topic “How have explorers changed the world?” by creating coats of arms to reflect the stories of each explorer. We also looked at how exploration has changed over time.
Chopstick Challenge
Chopstick Challenge. Today we were challenged to pick up and eat various different foods using only chopsticks. Pieces of apple, prawn crackers and marshmallows weren’t too difficult to pick up however we did struggle with the jelly beans, fruit pastels and noodles!
John Taylor High School Maths Transition Part 2
Class Three had their second John Taylor High School Maths transition today. Mrs Barnes joined us again and led an excellent session on multiplying and dividing by negative numbers.
